So you have decided to utilize a furniture battery pack to power your electric furniture. Gone are the days of tripping over wires and limiting yourself to furniture setups dictated by where the outlets are. The freedom of placing your furniture in the center of your room is just a purchase away.

Now the question is…which one? The market has many options, for sure. As an in-home repair technician for over a decade, I have seen them all, and two companies consistently rise to the top of my list.

In this article, we will explore the top 2 brands in furniture battery packs, Enouvation and FreeMotion. These two batteries are tried and true in the industry, so you will not go wrong with either. There are, however, differences that can help you determine which is best for your household’s specific routine.

History:

FreeMotion is owned and started by a powerhouse in the furniture industry, Parker House. Debuting in 2019, the FreeMotion battery pack was exclusive to Parker House Furniture but has since expanded use to other furniture manufacturers. The battery packs are offered in 3 models, each backed with a 5 Year Limited Warranty.

Enouvation was started in 2016 by the furniture retail company, Era Nouveau based in North Carolina. The store wanted a better handle on the many wires crossing their showroom but found that the single option for a battery pack was not meeting their needs. Enouvation now has 5 models, each backed by a 1 Year Limited Warranty.

Battery Pack Comparisons By Capacity

First, we will sort our battery pack comparisons into 3 categories; Recliners, Loveseats and Dual Sofas, Triple Sofas, and Sectionals. These categories are based on the battery’s capacity, measured in mAh or milliampere-hours.

It is important to note two assumptions in the comparisons of these batteries. The amount of cycles used in these comparisons is only a general estimate. Many variables can alter the number of cycles between battery recharges. For example, one recliner may have more than one motor, incorporating a headrest and/or lumbar adjustment. As a result, these extra features will change the power requirements for your system.

Finally, please remember that if you have certain features such as LED lights, USB ports, speakers, massage units, etc., and do not have a manual ON/OFF switch to control them, you will have a constant power draw on your battery, which can lead you to drain your batteries in days, not weeks. I have seen many battery packs run dry after 48 hours because of the continued energy demand these features put on your battery pack.

Battery Pack Considerations: FreeMotion’s Lithium-Ion Versus Enouvation’s Lithium-Polymer

The first consideration between these two battery manufacturers is found in the difference in the chemical compositions of the power cells. FreeMotion’s battery cells are lithium-ion (Li-Ion). Conversely, Enouvation sports lithium-ion polymer (Li-Po or Li-Poly). This means that FreeMotion has the added benefit of being able to charge while in use.

On the other hand, Enouvation is not able to be charged and discharged at the same time. If the battery pack is connected to both a charger and a motor, the battery pack will shut off its use function until the charger is disconnected. The benefit of using the Li-Ion battery may not be much, but it’s there. Lithium-Ion batteries are also more resilient over time, giving FreeMotion the confidence of a 5-year Limited Warranty.

The benefit of the Li-Po battery is found in its physical size. Because Li-Po battery technology is newer, the battery cells are lighter and smaller. The size of the battery pack is very important, as there is not a lot of space under a recliner’s mechanism frame.

Category 1: Small Capacity Battery Packs

Let’s dive into the Recliner section with a discussion of the low-capacity (1500mAh – 4000 mAh) battery packs.

Enouvation E2

With only 1900 mAh of battery capacity, the Enouvation E2 is the least impressive of the group. With an estimated number of 350 and 400 reclining cycles per charge, it can only power a maximum of 2 motors. While this battery pack is perfect for a recliner with a headrest motor, it doesn’t leave much room for other features. Since the battery pack can support 2 motors, you may use this battery pack on a dual reclining loveseat or sofa with no frills, each seat getting an average of 175 cycles.

Features

      • 1900 mAh capacity

      • ~350-400 cycles/charge

      • Powers up to 2 motors

      • LED power level indicator

    FreeMotion P25

The FreeMotion P25 battery pack comes with a larger capacity of 2,500 mAh, which comes with a few extra options for use. They are rated for approximately 450 reclining cycles and can facilitate up to 6 motors. This means that the FreeMotion P25 can power feature-packed recliners or loveseats and sofas that the Enouvation E2 will not support. This makes it the perfect choice for just about any power recliner, while also being capable enough to handle most power loveseats and sofas.

    Features

        • 2500 mAh

        • ~450 cycles/charge

        • Powers up to 2 seats and 6 motors

        • LED power level indicator

      Enouvation E4

The E4 battery carries twice the capacity of the E2 with almost 4000 mAh, giving it double the number of cycles per charge. An interesting note is that while the E4 has more capacity than the P25, the 4 motors the E4 can power is still less than the 6 motors with the P25. This is where the choice lies. If your battery pack aims to provide more cycles, then the E4 is your play. If power to multiple motors is more important to you, then P25 is the better option.

      Features

          • 3800 mAh

          • ~750 cycles/charge

          • Powers up to 2 seats and 4 motors

Category 2: Medium Capacity Battery Packs

These mid-sized battery packs have 5000 and 6000 mAh, respectively. As a result, the versatility of their uses is more apparent. One of the mid-sized options even has a

        Enouvation E5

At 5000 mAh, the E5 battery pack offers a well-rounded approach. On top of the physical features comes the first app-based control feature (iOS and Android). With the app, called Entelligent, you can visualize the pack’s power level, review, charge history, receive low power alerts, and even shut off the power remotely to conserve power when the pack is not in use. The pack also includes standard features like the LED indicator and the audible low-power alert.

        Features

            • 5000 mAh

            • ~1000 cycles/charge

            • Entelligent App (Remote Power Management System)

            • Powers up to 2 seats and 6 motors

          FreeMotion P50

With a 5000 mAh capacity and no app access, the P50 would seem to be the lesser of the group. Much like the P25 over the E4, its strength is found in its ability to accommodate more motors simultaneously (up to 9 motors). The pack is also a better option if you are looking for a higher cycle count for a 2 motor setup.

          Features

              • 5000 mAh

              • ~900 cycles/charge

              • Powers up to 4 seats and 9 motor

            Enouvation E6

While the E6 can power only 2 recliners or 6 motors, a problem would only arise with simultaneous use. This battery pack is perfect for any loveseat, sofa, or sectional even with headrest or lumber motors. It’s also a great option if high cycle counts are your goal. In my estimation, this is the best option for the mid-size group. While the P50 is the more capable, remember that the higher motor count comes at a price in capacity.

            Features

                • 6000 mAh

                • ~1200 Cycles/charge

                • Powers 2 recliners and 6 motors

Category 3: Large Capacity Battery Packs

              FreeMotion P75

With a solid 7500 mAh of power storage, the P75 battery pack is a solid contender in the large-capacity group. While not the largest capacity in the group, it does take first place in being the biggest brick of this list. If you need to power 9 motors at once, this would be the perfect battery pack.

              Features

                  • 7500 mAh

                  • ~1350 cycles/charge

                  • Powers up to 6 recliners and 12 motors

                Enouvation E10

The E10 is a capacity behemoth. With 10,000 mAh of power, the E10 is rated for an astounding 2000 cycles between recharges. Beyond the capacity advantage, the integrated Entelligence App gives you the power to control the battery pack. You can check the battery health, review usage, and turn off your battery pack remotely. Finally, the immense power bank allows the E10 to be the only battery pack on this list designed to be used with constant-draw features in mind, like USB ports.
